There is an increasing demand for participation in reusing industrial heritage sites. Furthermore reusing industrial heritage sites is part of urban transformations and its planning practices. There is not only a variety of planning traditions with implications on the concept and practice of participation, but also different understandings of conservation and development. In the discussion we want to explore the benefits of participation for planning and production of architecture as well as for heritage conservation. Four experts of different cases out of Europe will help us to understand potentials and implications of participation while reusing the past.

The discussion event will highlight concepts and cases from Europe. Invited guests are:

Andriy Makarenko (Kiew / Berlin), Levente Polyák (Budapest) and Tabea Michaelis (Basel/ Winterthur).
